Tony's Coal Fired Pizza and Slice House

About

  • 5-25

Tony's Coal Fired Pizza and Slice House pays homage to two very different styles of pizza, New York and New Haven. One of the only pizzerias of its kind on the West Coast, customers can find authentic New Haven and Connecticut style pizza cooked in a genuine coal fired oven. Upon the first taste and smell you will find why Tony's Coal Fired Pizza is one of the best. A neighbor to Tony's Pizza Napoletana, the Slice House is just one place where you can find great pizza created by Tony Gemignani. Tony is the chef and owner of the renowned restaurant Tony's Pizza Napoletana. The coal fired pizza is a 16" pie with a medium thickness that runs evenly from the middle all the way out to the crust. The pizza itself is somewhat charred and slightly chewy but has a crunch to it that will please all pizza lovers. Tony sticks to tradition with this style of pizza in using low moisture mozzarella from Brooklyn that will win you over every time. In addition to the coal fire customers can find classic New York style pizza by the slice. Just like in New York the pizza is 22" and cut into 8 large slices. Served on a plate with a sheet of wax paper to catch the drippings your New York slice can easily be folded, will crack, but not brake as you walk down the street enjoying a little slice of the east coast right here in North Beach.

Freshest pizza i have tasted in SF, customer service could be much nicer, not much space to eat, they only have one table inside, & one small table on the outside, each slice is about $6 not cheap for a slice of pizza but its expected being in the little italy neighborhood. Good pizza

Good pizza, poor customer service. Doing laundry up the street and I need dinner. Walk down here the first time. No line, two registers. The chick won’t take my order and I wait a couple minutes for some other guy to take my order. I order a slice of four cheese ($5.50) and pepperoni (5.50). Total $12.26. He asks me if it’s to go, I say yes. Then if I want plates or a box. I say a box of course. Keep your receipt as they just call numbers. They place my two slices up on the counter on plates. I ask for them to put it in a box for me, instead they just hand me a box and I put it in there myself.

The best pizza, ever. Highly recommend the Americano or the New Yorker pizza and an order of meat balls and green beans..and the friendly bar staff add to the ambiance

If you do not want to wait for the restaurant experience the next best thing is to have it to go or buy by the slice at Tony's. You can eat outside at the tables but again it could also be crowded. If you just want to try a slice and walk that is the NY way to do things. The meatball sub is amazing as I went off the pizza track today.

Hearty, delicious pizza by the slice and nice parklet. A fun lunch stop for North Beach walks.

Really good pizza here folks. Went to the order by the slice side. Scored on the table and sat inside. Two slices were hard to put down but tasted so good had to do it. Added the hot pepper olive oil on and yes that added a real nice touch. Dont miss checking Tony's out if in the area. We walked there from Pier 39. Kind of a very long walk but safe and good exercise.

Very cool place in Little Italy in San Fran. It has all the looks of a very local style pizza joint. The seating is mostly outdoors which is nice because usually the weather is fair in SF. The pizza was ok, thus the lack of 1 star. I'm pretty picky on my pizza and this didn't really wow me. I did like that they used the small pepperonis that curl up around the edges when baked. There was a line but don't let it worry you, they are very fast at getting people through the line.

This is exactly what I crave in pizza; loaded with small diameter oily pepperoni that crisps up around the edges while depositing it's delicious rendered fat payload directly on top of some bubbly melted cheese on top of crust that is thin enough to let the toppings shine while still providing a solid carby back stop to the magnificent fat and protine crescendo on top. 🤤

Zucchini blossom and burrata is what to get! We got a slice of that and a calzone which were phenomenal. The pepperoni and veggie were good, but nothing special. By the slice pizza is a tough thing to do well...heated and reheated then last the whole walk home and still be good is a feat. Tony’s knows how to get it done. Get some.

Your go-to pizza joint in North Beach, San Francisco - Italian pizza in historically Italian neighborhood. I've recently had a slice of the three-cheesr and to my surprise it was delicious beyond expectations. I'm not the biggest fan of pizza in general but this was really tasty.Good flavor, not too greasy, nice crust that is a part of the meal but doesn't overwhelm you with a loaf of bread-sized crust. The place is very well known and can get a little hectic - right by Washington Square - it isn't the quaint little spot though there is seating outside and the main restaurant right next door.Great pizza!

The Slice House was delicious. I wanted a slice and was a little surprise at the price, but paid it anyway cause I was hungry, and when I finally got it I saw why the price was so high, this slice was HUGE. Basically the size of two regular slices anywhere else. Would def go back.

Pizza is good but pricy. The whole restaurant is horribly organized. That causes long lines.

We feel it's the best pizza in San Francisco's Little Italy. Sit down inside or pull up a chair with a slice. It's fun to people watch too!

Pizza was ok, I had better in Burlingame. zorbas or Toto's are better and taste a lot better than Tony's. Tony's just gives you choices with the variety of different pizzas. It's also ok for a nice slice of pizza, but needs more flavor, Like sourdough bread.

Friendly service and the pizza was very fresh & tasty, but I wouldn’t say it’s as good as a true NYC pizza slice. It’s probably the closest thing you’ll get on the west coast, though! They also have a decent variety of slices to choose from, including multiple vegetarian options.

Great place to grab something quick. Limited seating outside and no real dine in area. The line might get long but it moves pretty quickly!

It’s was OK pizza... guess I shouldn’t expect much from San Fran. If you’re into something close to deep dish / sicilian you’re in the right place. Super greasy and doughy, two things I’m not a fan of. Really was expecting more of a flat crispy dough. Nice try tony try again. One less star because they made me wait literally 10 minutes for two slices and to top it off they charge money for the box to go.

There is a very tiny amount of seating available in this primarily to-go storefront. They have a bunch of pre-made, ready to great with a couple of minutes in an oven pizzas by the spice. They have a variety of sandwiches you can order. What it doesn't say on any menu board in there, thought, is the if you prepared to wait for it to be made, you can get any pizza made for you which they serve in the main Tony's Pizza Napoletana next door--especially nice when the wait for a table next door is 2.5hrs!

Great pizza place. Much better than the ones in that area that I have tried. Actually from the 5 places in LA and San Francisco I visited it was the best. Would have liked a more crunchy base.

Best slice of pizza I’ve had in living memory of eating pizza. Cool restaurant, amazing location, and the best flavored pizza I’ve had since I don’t know when. They have the perfect crunch on their crust, which is fluffy and satisfying for every bite, while giving an extra thin base so their flavors really take the show which they do.

This place and the pizzas here are overhyped. We ordered Vegetarian, Cheese and Margharita pizzas. Vegetarian was below average. Margharita and Cheese were pretty okay. Price: $5 per slice excluding taxes.Place is usually crowded. Not recommended 👎

Tony's has a number of places, including Oracle Park. This is a take out place or an eat your slice here place. There is just one table but more on the sidewalk or take it with you to your car. The bottom line is that Tony's pizza is supreme. It has great taste, great crust and a variety from which you can choose. Love it!

Hungry for Pizza and don't want to wait 1 hour + to get seated at Tony's Restaurant? Well, the next door slice version is your best chance!Bummed out we couldn't have beer [boo hoo :'( ] we were able to get a free table for 4 on a 2pm Saturday memorial weekend. Can you get luckier than this? Don't think so! It did start to get more crowded as we were finishing our meal but there is a park nearby where you can eat your pizza if you can't get a spot here tho.Pizza is oily and delicious! Between the 4 of us we shared 2 slices of Margarita, Pepperoni, NY and 1 slice of Sicilian (which had everything in it! Everything was heavenly. Their pizza dough is different, bread-y and delicious and it will get the job done to get you full. Again, bummed out about no beer but come prepared if that's a deal breaker for you and get your own beer from a liqueur store nearby. HA!Pizza! Ti amo tanto! Non ti lasciero Mai! (Pizza I love you lots and will never leave you)

Best Pizza in SF period. They have 3 restaurants at the same corner, you can either sit down and enjoy a formal meal or just grab a slice to go. Love their New Yorker Pizza and their Chicago beef sandwich in the picture is a must-try!!

This was one of the most complete and perfect slices of pizza I've ever had. The meat was perfectly seasoned, slightly crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside. The cheese was heavenly, and the crust was a guilty pleasure. Perfectly cooked in their coal-fire oven.

Great slice of pizza—especially with that sliced meatball. The focaccia dough pizza is also worth a go. The by-the-slice side of the house is simple and straightforward. You get in there, order your food, and get out. At busy times, there can be a wait, but it's only a few minutes and it's worth it.

Tony's Pizza is authentic takeout pizza. Ingredients were delicious and fresh. Main issue is that since it's so popular, employees lose track of your order very easily. They gave one customer the wrong pizza. Luckily he checked before he left the shop. I waited almost 30 min for my pizza which was sitting among other orders because employees can't be organized. Try it out because you won't be disappointed. Just make sure you are on top on the employees so they don't mess up your order.

A walk-in and order at counter with whole or slice already made. Point to what you like and pay while they warm it up for you. Seating is limited to a family booth inside, but you can sit at parklet or few tables out front. Quick-service pizzeria for those on-the-go without that much of wait time.

Great pizza. Great meatballs. Nice salad. Nice sparkling water. Yum! I will save time on my next trip for a repeat visit do fill my belly and relax my senses with a great view of the church at the end of Washington Square. Beware...During a light rain we sat outside under the awning. Only the person closest to the wall was spared from the sky’s wet tears. Be aware, people closest to the street should wear protective clothing.
